We are a group of people working together to bring changes to the understanding, practice and policy making in field of physical disability and rehabilitation. This is only a small step towards many other important steps to come towards reaching our goal.
We came to know about the condition of my child very early in her life. This helped us a lot in understanding and accepting the facts about cerebral palsy. But as my child grew, we were faced with many unexpected complications. As my child got older, the number of complication increased. We were not prepared for those complications. If we knew before hand, what to expect and how to prevent the problems that can arise early on it would have been much more helpful. so be aware that there is going to be different and complicated problems as the child grows.
Doctors helped us when our child was younger. As she grew older, even when we tried to take her to the doctors, we used to feel unwelcomed. Probably because they thought that nothing can be done with my child anymore. We face a lot of problem when my child is sick. It is very difficult for us to take our child to the doctors clinic. But they do not have system of visiting us at home. Some do make a visit for which we are thankful. But for some, They ask us to bring the child to them any how
When we take our child out for some reasons, most of the people on the streets , I feel, that they look at us with disgust. They say things like “Chya kasto bacha”- “ehh what kind of child is that”. They think that the parents must have committed some sin because of which our child was born like this. This makes us very sad and broken. Society makes us feel unaccepted an different. This is one of the reasons why people even hide their children with disability in their houses for ages. Instead if people could just walk away like we are normal people, that would make us feel more comfortable.
